There could be endless different theories about how this old, gnarly tree ended up standing lonely in the middle of the sea. Maybe there used to be a whole island there that perished ‘Mysterious Island-style’; maybe a bird accidentally dropped a seed that somehow took roots in a reef just under water; maybe the tree is a remnant of ancient times, when different laws applied to nature – everyone’s free to come up with their own version. The sailor of that little sailboat doesn’t know the truth either, but he’s probably thankful for the unexpected haven he’s found… This image is one of the 12 pieces of my series titled Sailing Seven Seas, inspired by ancient legends, myths and tales about the ocean. I'm a landscape architect, writer and illustrator currently living in Budapest. As an architect, creating illustrations for the visual presentation of a project has always been a very important part of my work but it's always been about the concept and never about the picture itself - it took me until my 30s to start to create images depicting my own stories, my own imaginary reality.
