'There could be endless different theories about how this old, gnarly tree ended up standing lonely in the middle of the sea. Maybe there used to be a whole island there that perished ‘Mysterious Island-style’; maybe a bird accidentally dropped a seed that somehow took roots in a reef just under water; maybe the tree is a remnant of ancient times, when different laws applied to nature – everyone’s free to come up with their own version. The sailor of that little sailboat doesn’t know the truth either, but s/he’s probably thankful for the unexpected haven s/he’s found…
This image is one of the 12 pieces of my series titled Sailing Seven Seas, inspired by ancient legends, myths and tales about the ocean.'
