Moss agate is a beautiful example of something I find amazing about gemstones: no matter how tiny they are, if you look closely they can take you to another dimension, like a whole other universe were trapped inside....as nature often repeats its basic designs with only changing the scale, the deep green, moss-like pattern on white background that is characteristic of this gemstone is created in my painting with tree branches and leaves against the pale sky.
This image is one of the 12 pieces of my series titled The wooden jewelry box, inspired by the beautiful colors, structures and details of gemstones, crystals and trees. All pieces are available as print.
About Moira Risen
I'm a landscape architect, writer and illustrator currently living in Budapest. As an architect, creating illustrations for the visual presentation of a project has always been a very important part of my work but it's always been about the concept and never about the picture itself - it took me until my 30s to start to create images depicting my own stories, my own imaginary reality. Most of my pictures are inspired by the existing world, but with a touch of illusion - I like to play with unreal lighting and reflections creating compositions that feel 'almost' realistic.
