Artist's Description
Amethyst is a purple variety of quartz. Its color is attributed to irradiation, iron impurities and the presence of trace elements. Amethyst has been highly esteemed throughout the ages for its stunning beauty and legendary powers to stimulate and soothe the mind and emotions. It is a semi-precious stone in today’s classifications, but to the ancients it was a “Gem of Fire,” a precious stone worth as much as a diamond.
'My interpretation of amethyst: beautiful old tree branches with a purple sky, in a style and mood reminiscent of old Japanese woodblock prints.'
This image is one of the 12 pieces of a series by Moira Risen, titled 'The wooden jewelry box', inspired by the beautiful colors, structures and details of gemstones, crystals and trees.
