The southernmost constellations: Pavo, Tucan, Grus, Phoenix, Dorado, Piscis Volans, Hydrus, Chamaeleon, Apis, Apis Indica, Triangulum Australe, Indus - star map from Johann Bayer's Uranometria, the 'mother of all celestial atlases', first printed in 1603 in Augsburg.
Uranometria (Uranometria : omnium asterismorum continens schemata, nova methodo delineata, aereis laminis expressa) is perhaps the most illustrious and influential star atlas of the history of astronomy.
It contains engraved copper plates with the charts of 52 constellations - all Zodiac signs among them - with accurate positions of all stars and beautiful illustrations of the mythical persons and creatures associated with the constellations.
